Pick target size or a quality preset

Two ways to compress. Target size when the file has to fit a hard limit: choose 8, 25, 50, or 100 MB and the tool aims to land near that cap. Use a quality preset (High, Balanced, Small) when you just want a lighter file and don't care about an exact number. High keeps the most detail; Small cuts hardest. Reach for target size for uploads with a ceiling, and the quality preset for saving space or speeding up sharing.

Match real upload limits

The size presets line up with the caps you actually hit. 25 MB is the attachment limit for Gmail and Outlook.com, so a 25 MB target keeps a clip emailable. 10 MB covers Discord's free-tier upload; the 8 MB preset gives a little headroom under it. 50 MB matches Discord Nitro Basic, and 100 MB suits larger message boards and internal tools. Because sizing is approximate and single-pass, aim one preset below a strict limit if the upload rejects anything even slightly over.

Cap resolution and drop audio to save more

When a size target forces heavy compression, lowering resolution buys back clarity. A 4K or 1080p source squeezed into 8 MB looks blocky; cap it at 720p or 480p and the same bytes go further, since there are fewer pixels to describe. Keep original only when the file already has room to spare. Removing the audio track is the other lever: for silent screen recordings, timelapses, or muted background loops, dropping audio frees bytes that go straight into picture quality.

Tips

For a strict cap, target the preset just under it (8 MB for Discord's 10 MB free limit) since sizing lands near, not exactly on, the number.
Talking-head and screen-share footage tolerates a 720p cap well; save 1080p for detailed motion or text you need crisp.
Removing audio on a silent clip is free savings, all the room goes into the picture.
If quality looks rough at a tight size, raise the size target or lower the resolution cap rather than fighting both at once.

Questions

Can it hit an exact file size?: It gets close. We compute a bitrate from your target and the video's length, with a safety margin, expect to land near your cap, occasionally a little under. For a hard limit, choose the next preset down to stay safely under.
Will compressing hurt the quality?: Smaller files always drop some detail. To limit visible loss, use a higher size target or the High preset, and cap resolution to 720p so the available bytes cover fewer pixels.
Can I make a clip small enough for Discord or email?: Yes. Use the 8 MB target for Discord's free 10 MB upload and the 25 MB target for Gmail and Outlook.com attachments.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?: No. Your file is processed privately on your device and never leaves it, there's nothing to upload.
