Why convert MP4 to MP3?
An MP4 carries both a video track and an audio track. When you only want the sound, a song, a lecture, a podcast, or a voice recording, an MP3 is far smaller and plays in every music app, car stereo, and podcast player. Extracting to MP3 drops the video entirely, so a 200 MB MP4 can become just a few MB of audio while keeping the full-length sound.
Picking a bitrate
MP3 quality is set by its bitrate. 320 kbps (about 2.4 MB per minute) is best for music you want to keep. 192 kbps (about 1.4 MB per minute) is the sensible default for general listening. 128 kbps (about 1 MB per minute) is fine for speech and keeps files tiny. A higher bitrate cannot add detail the MP4's audio never had, so match it to the content rather than always maxing it out.
What you get
You get the full audio track, exactly as long as the MP4 and at its original volume. The tool separates the sound from the picture; it does not trim, fade, normalize, or merge tracks, so do any editing afterward in an audio editor. If the MP4 has more than one audio track, the primary one is extracted.
Tips
- Use 320 kbps for music and drop to 128 kbps for talk-only recordings to shrink the file about threefold.
- The MP3 keeps the MP4's exact length and volume, so trim or level it afterward in an audio editor.
- A 128 kbps MP3 is roughly 1 MB per minute, handy for staying under email or chat attachment caps.
- Only the audio is kept, so even a large 4K MP4 produces a small MP3.

Questions
- How do I convert an MP4 to MP3?
- Drop your MP4 into the tool, pick a bitrate (320 kbps for music, 192 for general use), and download the MP3. It all runs in your browser, so the file is never uploaded.
- Will converting MP4 to MP3 lose quality?
- MP3 is a lossy format, so extracting re-encodes the audio and loses a little detail. It is usually inaudible at 192 to 320 kbps. For the best result, pick a higher bitrate and start from the best-quality MP4 you have.
- How small will the MP3 be?
- Only the audio is kept, so the file shrinks a lot. At 192 kbps an MP3 is about 1.4 MB per minute no matter how large the MP4's video was, so a big MP4 becomes a small audio file.
- Is my MP4 uploaded anywhere?
- No. The conversion happens entirely on your device and nothing is sent to a server, so your file stays private with no account or sign-in.
