Private, nothing is uploaded

Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

Cut an image down to just the part you want, free a square for a profile picture, 16:9 for a thumbnail, 9:16 for a story, or any freeform shape. You drag the crop box right on the image and it crops at full resolution, all in your browser with nothing uploaded.

Freeform or a locked ratio

Leave the ratio on Free to drag any rectangle when you just want to trim edges or reframe loosely. Lock a ratio when the destination has a fixed shape: 1:1 for a profile photo or Instagram post, 16:9 for a YouTube thumbnail or slide, 9:16 for a Reel/TikTok/Story, 4:5 for an Instagram feed post, or 4:3 for classic photos. With a ratio locked, the box keeps that exact shape as you resize, so you can't accidentally end up slightly off-spec.

Full-resolution, lossless by default

The crop is applied to the original image at full resolution, not the scaled-down preview you see on screen, so the output stays as sharp as the source within the area you kept. Saving as PNG keeps it completely lossless, ideal when the image has text or sharp edges, or when you'll edit it further. Choose JPG instead for a much smaller file on photographs; a transparent area becomes white in JPG, so keep PNG if transparency matters.

Cropping vs resizing

Cropping removes the parts of the picture outside the box, changing the shape and discarding pixels, so the subject fills more of the frame. Resizing keeps the whole image and changes its pixel dimensions. If a wide photo has empty space on the sides and you want a tight square, crop it, that trims the dead space instead of squashing everything. Reach for a resize tool only when you need specific output dimensions with nothing cut away.

Tips

  • Lock 1:1 for a profile picture so it isn't re-cropped awkwardly when you upload it.
  • Use 9:16 for Stories/Reels and 16:9 for thumbnails to match the slot exactly.
  • Save as PNG for screenshots or anything with text; JPG for smaller photo files.
  • Everything runs locally, so you can crop a sensitive screenshot without it leaving your device.

Questions

How do I crop an image online for free?
Add your image, drag the crop box to frame what you want (optionally lock a ratio like 1:1 or 16:9), then click Crop & download. It all runs in your browser, with no upload or watermark.
Does cropping reduce quality?
No. The crop is taken from the full-resolution original, so the kept area stays as sharp as the source. Save as PNG to keep it completely lossless.
Can I crop to a square or a specific ratio?
Yes. Lock 1:1 for square, 16:9, 9:16, 4:5, or 4:3, and the box holds that exact shape as you drag and resize. Leave it on Free for any shape.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is cropped entirely on your device and never leaves the browser, so there's no server, no account, and nothing stored.
